An Act of Hope!

“Writing is an act of hope.”

Jack Heffron (The Writer’s Idea Book)

I agree. Writing is an act of hope!

Not the spiritual hope, the confident expectation that we have as followers of Christ, but an uncertain desire, with a certain sense of desperation that what we set out to communicate will be creative, delightful and on point.

For me, writing is a hope that whatever it is you wish to say, will be said. Furthermore, it will be said effectively, and artistically, with panache and will communicate the passion, the foresight, the wisdom which drives your thought, directs your pen, or fuels your flying fingers over the keyboard.

It is a hope that the blank page/screen will not frustrate or intimidate your creative soul. It is a hope that you will once again be amazed at the words that pour out of your being, which shape themselves into an effective argument, or a passionate plea, or a cornucopia of useful information.

Writing is a hope that the words on the page will reach into the soul of your reader, stirring a response, evoking an emotion, or serve as an inspirational springboard for noble, or positive self-affirming action. It’s a desire to share life, portray wit or humour, dispense wisdom.

By writing, I believe we aim to use our words to ignite fervour, summon loyalty, strike-up friendships and gain whole-hearted agreement to our way of thinking. As you pour out of your heart and share your experiences, or your creative ability, writing is a hope that this precious, vulnerable element of your soul, will be embraced and celebrated.

It is a hope that the best part of you, the part that speaks of who you truly are, or whom you are determined to be, will be emboldened… will stand up and be counted… will shout loud and proud, and give voice to your skill and talent, or to your beliefs and concerns.

It is a hope that will either result in pleasing gratification or yowling disappointment because your words either sing from the page (or screen) in a melodious harmony of authorial intent and accomplishment, or remain flat, lifeless, and off-key—a bum note!

Writing is a hope that I will not sit down at my keyboard and hear the voice of FEAR within, denouncing me as an imposter. It is a hope that the inspiration and talent of yesterday has not abandoned me today, or indeed, for ever!

What say you?

Love,
